Are Placenta Pills the Power Surge New Moms Need?
Mothers in the making, would you eat your own placenta? As unpalatable as it sounds, many moms-to-be are thinking of preserving their own afterbirth to reap its benefits to their health. Instead of dumping the placenta after giving birth, why not have its beneficial properties encapsulated? One expert draws on her own personal and professional experience to tell the Voice of Russia how healthy the placenta can be.
Heightened energy after delivery, an abundance of breast milk, and no more postpartum blues, could one magic pill deliver all of this to newbie mothers? Although no extensive scientific testing has been carried out on the effects of taking placenta pills, many women rave about their positive experiences. At the same time, heightened levels of iron and B6 in the placenta make it rich in nutrients, explaining claims that it has a revitalising effect.
“My son’s placenta I ate in full. I had a whole plan of things I was going to do with my placenta. I had a home birth and the moment after he came out, I ripped a piece off and put it on my gums [which helped stop post natal bleeding],” explained Lynnea Shrief, Director of the Independent Placenta Encapsulation Network (IPEN), she continued, “Hours after my home-birth, my mother took one-sixth of my placenta and blended it with fresh fruits and made me a raw placenta smoothie.” Later, Shrief consumed more in raw and pill forms…..
